  • Pakistan get 287 pursuing a DLS score of 313 in 46 overs.
  • Sidra Amin gets 122 off 110, her 2nd consecutive century.
  • Brits deliver an unbeaten 171, and Laura Wolvaardt scored 100.

LAHORE: Despite a second straight century from top-order batter Sidra Amin, Pakistan fell 25 runs short as South Africa clinched the rain-hit second ODI of the three-match series at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Friday.

Chasing a revised target of 313 in 46 overs, the hosts were bowled out for 287 in 44.4 overs despite a marathon 146-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Sidra and Natalia Pervaiz.

Sidra and Natalia had brought Pakistan back into contention until the 38th over, but the loss of the former gave South Africa the upper hand and ultimately seal an emphatic win as the home team lost their last seven wickets for only 40 runs.

Sidra continued to be Pakistan’s highest scorer with 122 off 110 balls, hitting 13 fours, while Natalia scored an 89-ball 73, which included seven fours. Apart from them, opening batswoman Omaima Sohail was the other significant run-scorer with her 43 at the top of the order.

For South Africa, Nadine de Klerk paved the way with three scalps, while Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp took two apiece, with Nondumiso Shangase and Masabata Klaas contributing with a scalp each.

Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana’s decision to bat first proved costly as the visiting team amassed 292/3 after the game was cut short to 46 overs per side by a rain delay.

Home side will have to pursue a new target of 313 in 46 overs according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) formula to remain in contention for the series.

South Africa’s opening duo of Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt set the stage for a record score by coming together for a marathon 260-run partnership, which finally came to an end with the former’s wicket in the 44th over.

Wolvaardt made 100 off 129 balls, interspersed with 10 boundaries, before getting out to Diana Baig.

After her fall, South Africa saw two other wickets fall quickly, but Brits held steady and batted through to the end to secure a solid finish.

She was the highest scorer for South Africa with an untainted 171 off 141 balls, dotted with 20 fours and four sixes, and collected the Player of the Match award.

Diana Baig was still the lone wicket-taker for Pakistan, claiming two wickets for 45 runs from her five overs.

The 25-run win took South Africa to an invincible 2-0 triumph over Pakistan, with the third ODI to be played on Monday.
