UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan on Friday called on the UN Security Council to go beyond a condemnation of Israeli aerial attacks on Hamas negotiators and hold Israel responsible for its “illegal and unprovoked aggression” against Qatar.
In an address to an emergency meeting of the 15-member Council on the Middle East, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized the protection of the role and protection of mediators involved in peace initiatives, and the reaffirmation of the primacy of international law and the UN Charter in ensuring world peace and security.

The meeting, convened at the request of Pakistan, Algeria and Somalia, took place during the presidency of South Korea for the month of September.
Pakistan strongly condemns the unprovoked and illegal Israeli aggression against the fraternal State of Qatar,” Ambassador Ahmad stated, calling it a “reckless and provocative attack” against Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He stated the Israeli attacks hit a residential area, placing civilians in harm’s way intentionally and amounting to a serious violation of international humanitarian law. This “brazen and illegal attack,” he continued, was not an isolated event but part of an integrated and systematic pattern of Israeli action contravening regional peace and stability.
Pakistan, he said, fully supports the Government and people of Qatar and is in total solidarity with them and the inalienable right to adopt all measures necessary to protect their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of all individuals on their territory, in accordance with the UN Charter.

He added, “This irresponsible action by Israel is yet another manifestation of its systematic disregard for international law, and its brazen policy of destabilizing the region. It adds to its long and dubious record of aggression, brutal military actions in Gaza, repeated cross-border strikes in Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and Yemen – all of which amount to violations of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law.”
“Such acts of aggression, as the UNGA Resolution 3314 defines them, create a perilous precedent, undermine the primacy of the rule of law, and foster a culture of impunity that risks undermining the security of all states,” the Pakistani diplomat cautioned.
