KARACHI: Sindh government has initiated a scheme for farmers providing solar panel sets on highly subsidized rates.
Sindh Minister for Agriculture, Anti-Corruption, and Sports Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar made the announcement that small and medium-scale farmers with 5 to 25 acres of agricultural land can apply.
Scheme Highlights:
A total of 295 solar units would be fitted in 4,000 acres of agricultural land. Farmers will bear 20% of the cost, while 80% will be borne by the Sindh government.
The applications should be filed by September 20 at the Director General Agriculture Office, Hyderabad, Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar stated.

The project is geared to encourage sustainable energy alternatives in agriculture and de-emphasize farmers’ dependence on conventional sources of energy.

The Sindh government, in the meantime, had also released a plan for distributing free solar panels among houses consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month.
Qualified customers can still apply for the facility through the Sindh Energy Department. Eligible consumers can apply for the scheme based on their consumption of electricity.
Distribution of solar panels among 200,000 families was announced by the Sindh government. 77,000 homes have already been provided with solar panels, and 123,000 additional homes will be provided with panels in the second phase, as per statistics of the provincial assembly.
If applications exceeding 123,000 are submitted, the successful applicants will be selected through a lottery system.
