Ferrari on Tuesday finished off its hybrid lineup update with the 849 Testarossa sportscar, a homage to the iconic original Testarossa of the 1980s.

The new plug-in hybrid, four-wheel-drive car was revealed in Milan, a vehicle that will take over at the top of its line from 2019’s SF90 Stradale. The new model will also come in a retractable-top ‘spider’ form.

Its middle-rear mounted, 4-litre, eight-cylinder turbocharged engine with a power of 830 horsepower is paired with three electric motors, the total being 1,050 HP, 50 higher than the SF90 Stradale. It will be able to achieve a top speed of more than 330 kilometres (205 miles) per hour, the company announced in a release.

The price of 849 Testarossa begins at 460,000 euros ($540,000) for the coupe and 500,000 euros for the spider version, with initial deliveries to customers planned respectively in the second and third quarter of next year, beginning with Europe.

Deliveries to American clients will begin about three months later at higher prices in response to import tariffs.

Ferrari, led by CEO Benedetto Vigna, is rolling out new models while also preparing to start next month to showcase its first electric vehicle, part of a three-stage process culminating in a world premiere next spring.

It will break Ferrari’s tradition of roaring petrol engines, although Vigna has reaffirmed the company would continue to make petrol and hybrid cars, along with EVs.

Ferrari in April introduced the new hybrid 296 Speciale and its convertible counterpart, based on the 2021 Ferrari 296, the company’s other hybrid car, now near the end of its life cycle.

As part of its usually aggressive model release strategy, Ferrari in July also introduced the solely petrol-powered Amalfi coupe, substituting and replacing the successful 2019 Roma in the entry point of its lineup.
