“China’s stance on TikTok is clear: The Chinese government respects the enterprise’s will, and welcomes it to conduct commercial negotiations in accordance with market principles to achieve a solution that is in line with China’s regulations and laws, and strikes a balance of interests,” China’s Commerce Ministry stated in a release, echoing a stance that the ministry has held over the course of the past week.

The framework agreement was another barrier Trump had to overcome in order to maintain TikTok available. US Congress had originally demanded the app be closed to US users by January 2025 if Chinese owner ByteDance sold off its US assets.
