ICC makes decision against USAC for repeated governance breaches
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect after a year-long review and consultations with key stakeholders.
The ICC Board reached the decision at its recent meeting, citing repeated breaches of obligations under the ICC Constitution.
As per the ICC, USA Cricket did not develop an effective governance system, made limited strides toward National Governing Body recognition by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and took steps that damaged the sport’s reputation both at home and globally.
“The suspension is a regrettable but necessary measure to secure the long-term interests of the game,” the ICC stated.
The Board stressed that the national teams of USA Cricket will continue to have the right to compete in ICC events, including preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28).

In order to maintain continuity, the ICC and its appointed representatives will take temporary charge of the running and managing of USA’s national teams.
This structure has the objective of helping the players, continue momentum towards Olympic inclusion, and keeping the High-Performance & Player Development Program running, which has the goal of enhancing the abilities of USA cricketers.
The ICC’s Normalisation Committee, with the assistance of ICC management, will determine the process for USA Cricket to have its suspension removed and membership rights restored.
These steps will encompass evidence-based improvements to governance, operations, and overall functioning of the cricket ecosystem. The committee will also track progress and issue consultative advice.
The ICC reiterated its commitment to developing cricket in the United States while protecting the interests of players and the wider sporting ecosystem.
USA Cricket was put ‘on notice’ during the 2024 ICC Annual General Meeting for non-adherence to membership requirements, for which a 12-month notice period was given to comply.
Though assurances and undertakings were given to the ICC Board in July 2025, persistent non-adherence resulted in this suspension.
USA Cricket was specifically cautioned against taking any action threatening cricket’s Olympic status or damaging the reputation of the ICC.
